The Portuguese Association of Energy Economics (APEEN) is the Portuguese affiliate of the International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE) and has the following goals:

APEEN – Associação Portuguesa de Economia da Energia

To promote collaboration between people and institutions interested in Energy Economics in order to create a professional discussion forum.

To provide a means of professional communication and of exchanging experience and knowledge between people and institutions interested in Energy Economics.

To promote and run awareness campaigns on topics related to Energy Economics.

To carry out information initiatives with the media and with political and economic decision-makers in order to raise their awareness of matters related to Energy Economics.

Activity and origins

Created in 2015 at the University of Aveiro

To achieve these goals, APEEN promotes, among other activities, the organisation of conferences, meetings and seminars on topics related to Energy Economics and disseminates the work and conclusions of the resulting debates.

The “negotiations” with renowned Portuguese figures in the field of Energy and Environmental Economics culminated in a meeting in Lisbon with the founding members, who make up the various bodies of APEEN. At this meeting, held on 18 May 2015, the members present agreed to come together to give rise to today’s APEEN, at the time of the 12th International Conference on the European Energy Markets (EEM 2015), which took place at ISEL – Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa.

It was created at the University of Aveiro (UA) during the II Meeting on Energy and Environmental Economics (ME3), held on 18 September 2015 at the Department of Economics, Management, Industrial Engineering and Tourism (DEGEIT), with the presence and support of Gürkan Kumbaroglu, president-elect of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE).
